Getting Creative With Coping Mechanisms
One of my youngest clients, of 9 years has created this spinning plate for World Mental Health day at school. He brought it to his session this evening.
He also took it into school to show others how to cope with their feelings.
He has learnt some of strategies here with me, others he has added.
As you spin the plate it reveals the coping mechanisms he now uses and his favourite things to do to feel comfortable and happy again 👌
Behind the window as you spin the upper plate are the following helpful strategies-
- Think happy
- Watch a movie
- Deep breaths
- Breath slow
- Your not going to be sick
- Hold your forefinger & thumb together (anchor)
- Mum
- Doodle
What a total legend he is. I was so impressed with it I thought other children could take on the ideas.
Please share this post far and wide so we can get the message out to children to talk about their feelings inside their heads as much as possible.
